At the edges of the world we know, they live, the last indigenous communities - far from civilisation, yet affected by its consequences. Before these last indigenous ways of life also have to give way to the steady advance of globalisation, photographer and Greenpeace activist Markus Mauthe has travelled to them - with the aim of making the beauty of their cultures visible to us. The journey takes us from South Sudan and Ethiopia to the sea nomads in Malaysia and the Indians in Mato Grosso, Brazil, who have begun to fight against the destruction of their habitat. Markus Mauthe has been celebrating great success for years, not only with his pictures but also with his travel talks - over 250,000 viewers have attended his reports and shows in the last 25 years. Now, for the first time, he has been accompanied by a film team to provide an insight into his work. The result is a film with close, undisguised encounters in beguilingly beautiful images - and an appeal for the preservation of indigenous lifeworlds that are doomed without our determined rethinking and action.
